1961 Gibson Melody Maker Sunburst
There's nothing quite 'student model' about this guitar!
A really lovely playing and sounding Melody Maker from early 1961. These instruments were released as student models, with the single cutaway examples being manufactured between 1959 and early 1961. By 1961, the models had transitioned to a double cutaway. Of note, examples from 1960 and 1961 had a narrower pickup width. Based off internals, the original pickup appears to be intact, however has had some plastic shaved away on the back plate.
Tuners are original, as is the finish, however the wraparound is a Gotoh replacement. A quick examination of the internals reveals what appears to be a complete re-wire with new CTS pots, a Switchcraft jack, and replaced capacitor. The control knobs also appear to be un-original.
Hardware is fully functional, and plays well with a low action. Includes the original croc case!
